WordPress administrator is rich in features. It gives you a powerful functionality to search free themes and free plugins from WordPress administrator.
You don't need to :
Search themes separately, download and then upload files to WordPress.
Upload files via FTP.
So let's see the way to search and install theme from inside WordPress administrator.
As usual login into WordPress.
Take your mouse pointer to the admin menu Appearance, Click on submenu Themes
On Themes page, click on Add New.
Add themes page provide you the featured, popular and latest themes list. You can choose themes from these listing.
After clicking, You will be redirected to the themes page where you can see your activated theme in first row.
Now the second thing is that you can also find your desired theme with the help of search box provided in Add themes page.
Enter search term in the box and don't need to hit the Enter.
For example if we want a theme for a shopping site so we can take a word "shopping" to search our desired theme.
Enter this word in search box, the live search functionality will provide you the result while typing the word.

Now you have to follow same process to install and activate theme as explained above.
There is another thing you will find on this page is feature filter. Here you can find themes with the help of provided options/filters.
For example if you want a red theme with three columns, custom menu and custom header.
Go to the feature filter tab, select the desired options/filters and click on Apply filters.
You will get themes on the basis of your chosen options.
Theme installation and activation process will be the same.
That's all for theme installation.
Now we will move to search and install plugin from inside WordPress administrator.
Take your mouse pointer to the admin menu plugins then click on add new.
You will get a page with search box.
Enter your desired term in search box like slide show, link manager, shopping cart, PayPal, contact form etc and hit the enter. You will see the result related to your term. Choose most appropriate plugin from the list.
Click on "install now" link below the plugin name.
It will take few seconds to install then you will be asked to activate the plugin. Click on "Activate plugin" link.
Now your plugin has been activated, you can check it in installed plugin page.
